About Forest Ferns

Forest Ferns is a small nursery dedicated to sourcing and supplying tree ferns and ferns throughout the UK and abroad. The nursery was the brainchild of owner Jonathan Selway, whose passion for ferns over the past 10 years and the inaccessibility of many ferns to the wider public saw him start Forest Ferns in early 2005. With Jon's own personal collection of ferns growing rapidly over the past decade, it became his passion to make a wider range ferns more accessible to both the amateur and professional gardener. This is the driving force behind Forest Ferns. Forest Ferns is very much run as a hobby in Jon's spare time, with this in mind we don't always respond to queries as quickly as we would like!

As you may already know forest ferns will be taking a break in 2007. This year will be the first year that new regulations came into place on the exportation of tree ferns from New Zealand and Australia. The new regulations will requires all harvested trunks to be held on a licensed nursery for a period of one year before they can be exported. Therefore this may prove a challenging year for the UK fern industry. With this in mind the nursery will concentrate its efforts on acquiring new ferns from around the world, as well as building up new links with nursery's in New Zealand and Australia - consequently the nursery will not be offering plants to the retail sector. We hope to be back in 2008 so please keep posted!
